Day 6 - August 10

Up early again today.  Shower in a pail as no facilities in National Park.  Drove past Crazy Horse Monument, we'll come back when it's done (p.s.  it was started in 1947).  We went to Mount Rushmore which was really nice.  Did the walking tour of the grounds and were back on the road about 10:30 a.m.  Had lunch at McDonald's in Spearfish, SD near the border to do our blog for yesterday.  Crossed into Wyoming around 2:00 and stopped at the tourist information booth.  We asked her the best route to Yellowstone and she asked how we liked Mountain driving which we have not particularly enjoyed so she suggested going via Cody on Hwy 16.  The mountains were amazing (the Bighorn Mountains)  at Powder River Pass, the highest point was 9,686 feet!  It got really hot after that when we were driving  on a flatter part, 99 degrees f., but it is feeling better now in Cody where we are at the Ponderosa Campground.   We are about 1 hour from Yellowstone now.  The van has been great, but today the passenger side power window quit working about 3/4's up.  Hopefully we can fix it.

  1. Great pictures Angie, especially the first one. Yes, I can identify with your window issue. You need a new regulator. For the Caravan it was a $ 300 problem. Alternatively, you can duct tape the window in the up position by taking door apart. In extreme heat however, the duct tape loosens and it can be stressful watch the window begin to lower.

  2. Really great to see the picture of where I was with the bike just a few weeks ago. Enjoy the sites and your time together
