Eastern Vacation - Day 3 - August 1, 2015

Today we spent the day in Kingston.  It is a beautiful City.  We went to the market and then walked all along Princess Street as the street was closed and all the stores were selling their wares outside with lots of activities.  We even got to surprise Monica (Pete's cousin) with a visit to her store!  She, of course, was the busiest store on the street with running races for the kids, a pancake breakfast, Superman and Elsa there doing pictures with kids, a full petting zoo, with pig, calf, sheep, goat, llamas, and a complete mini golf course.  Phew!  I don't know how she does it.  Her store is lovely and her staff are friendly.  We then went back to the van and got our bikes.  You could bike all along the waterfront and we biked to Old Fort Henry.  It was really nice to see with.  We had a great tour guide who was very informative.  All the people to work there are in 'character' as soldiers or village people and they have events going on all through the day like muster parades and marching and shooting exhibitions.  Keep in mind that the fort is on the highest point in Kingston so the views are amazing and we had a beer on the patio which is against the rampart wall overlooking the water which is filled with sailboats, we think from the military school, and private boats and ferries and such.  We also biked up to the highest point, puff, puff, but going back was really good.
We also toured St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Princess Street.  It was built in the early 1800s and was attended by our own Billy Bishop when he was a student at the Royal Military College.  He engraved his name on a pew while there.  (probably during one of the 4 hr. services) Sir John A MacDonald was also a member as well as many other prominent members of society at the time.  A very beautiful work of art.  When it was built it seated over 700 people and the overflow section of 200 more seats was often required.  I don't think it's ever filled to capacity any more.
After a little more walking around, some shopping, a church location trip, we went back to our camp site and had another good night.

We forgot the camera for most of the day, so this is the only picture of the day!
