Outer Banks Vacation - November 10, 2017

We left our park in the morning around 10 after walking the beach.  We stopped at a day use park and watched people getting ready to kite surf.  It was really windy and we were worried that the ferries wouldn't be running, but they were.  We also stopped at the Cape Hatteras lighthouse.  It was moved in 2004 and they made a documentary about it.  Seeing the size of it, it is unbelievable that it could be moved.  It is also so beautiful!  White and black stripes on a diagonal and the base is red with whitish stone.  Very striking.  Most times of the year you can climb it's over 200 steps to the top, but not at this time of year.

Our first ferry left from Hatteras Village and went to Ocracoke Island.  This ferry is free and takes about 1 hour..  We got on the 1 p.m. ferry.

Then there is a 13 mile drive to Ocracoke Village and the next ferry leaves at 4.  We were there in plenty of time, so had a walk around the village, made coffee and then got on the ferry.  It was very rough for a while.  Loved it!  This ride was over 2 hours long and cost only $15 for us and the van!

It was very dark when we landed at Cedar Island, but we knew there was a campground almost right away on the left.  We did pass it, but turned around and found a site and plugged in.  No one in charge was around.  In the morning the neighbour gave us the code for the bathroom, which was quite sketchy and we left $40 with him to pay for our site.
